Dogs, dirt and veggies

Here's a few pictures from this past weekend. We put a bunch of herbs in pots and gave some to the neighbor. I also went for a bike ride, went to a Caribbean drinks (Painkillers) party, and the Banff Mountain Film Festival. A busy, fun filled weekend with gorgeous weather. A little studying, and chores got done too. Fun and productive. Hope yours was enjoyable.

Snowshoe Mar. 2013

I went snowboarding at Snowshoe Mtn this past weekend. Friday night me and 3 other guys loaded up my car and made the night drive to Cass. I have a snowboard rack that I got for dirt cheap from a co-worker, and was excited to put it to good use. But when I tried to put it on top of my car, I realized it didn't fit. Not for any of your standard reasons; the brackets were the correct size/shape/type, but the rack is actually wider than my cross bars. Bummer. I put the roof basket back on top and we were able to store a couple gear bags and snowboards, which worked just fine. Bunjeed and tied down with some old climbing rope, we hit the road.

This was our place in Cass. Plenty of beds, big kitchen, living room and separate dining room. One bathroom. Meh. It was cheap, and I'd recommend it and stay there again.

This was our view from the front porch. I think this was one of the only times it wasn't snowing. It snowed pretty much the entire time we were there. From Friday night through Sunday afternoon, the powder just kept adding up. It was great.

Saturday we started at 9am, took a short break for lunch, and another short break for dinner and left the slopes just before 8pm. Needless to say, we were a little tired. There was talk of a "polar plunge" in the river in front of the cabin, but that didn't happen. Sleep came quickly. Sunday we had to pack up the car, so we didn't get on the slopes until closer to 9:30. With another short break for lunch, we closed the place down at 4:30pm. We grabbed another quick dinner and then headed to the car.

Unfortunately, a light was left on in the car, so the battery was dead when we tried to leave. I'm sure the fact that it was 12 degrees without the wind chill didn't help. Some helpful skiiers tried to jump the battery, but their cables were pretty poor and just weren't proving enough power. Luckily, some other helpful battery jumping folks came by with professional cables and a generator on the back of their truck and got us up and running again. We were able to hit the road by 5:30 and made the windy trip home. When the other guys post some video, I'll be sure to put in on here. It was a ton of fun and look forward to the next time.
